What are Engine Diagnostics?
When a warning light illuminates on your dashboard, an engine diagnostics check can help identify the problem before more serious damage occurs. There are literally hundreds of potential error codes that can only be read by specialist vehicle diagnostic equipment. While a warning light may display on the dashboard alerting you to an issue, a diagnostics check is required to understand the full extent and cause of the problem.
Alternatively, if your car or van suffers from any of the following, Bolton Tyre and Service Centre can help diagnose the problem.
- Poor Starting
- Poor Idling / Stalling
- Hesitation / Misfire
- Low On Power
- Poor Fuel Economy
- Emissions failure on MOT
What is a Diagnostic Check?
Most modern cars use computer control or Electronic Control Unit (ECU). For their Engine Management Systems and due the increased level of sophistication of the fuel injected car the days of DIY tuning are no longer with us. If your Engine Management Warning light comes on or your car starts to run badly, it is important to get your car checked out straight away.
With our Vehicle Diagnostics check service we will connect our diagnostics computers to your vehicle, read any fault codes and advise of their meaning.
We will carry out a basic inspection and check of the cars service records, check for fault codes in the ECU and take measurements from the engine sensors, at this point we will contact you to discuss our findings.
When the fault code indicates a more extensive problem, or where basic diagnostics will be insufficient we will advise you of the reasons for this, any likely timescales and additional costs that maybe incurred to correctly find the fault and further advise we may be able to offer.
If the fault or result of our diagnosis indicates the vehicle maybe unsafe to drive or that further damage may result from continue use, we will advise you of this.
We will always keep you informed while your car is with us and will never carry out work without checking with you first.
Call us now to book your Diagnostic Check and we can use our advanced technology to find the fault as possible, in order to avoid costly bills.
